The Boston BEAM initiative will offer Students the following services:

The Boston BEAM initiative will offer students the following services:

  •   Weekly private instrumental lessons with highly qualified instructors

  •   Orchestra experience, at a range of graduated levels (and/or large wind ensemble for wind, brass and percussion players)

  •   Chamber music, with coaching by distinguished professionals

  •   Performance opportunities (solo, chamber and orchestral/large‐ensemble)

  •   Instruction in music theory and musicianship

  •   Master classes, workshops, demonstrations, and side‐by‐side rehearsals/performances with accomplished professionals

  •   Assistance to attend summer music programs, upon recommendation of Student Advocate, including tuition and travel stipends

  •   Access to instrument libraries maintained by the individual BEAM partner institutions; assistance in renting or purchasing instruments

  •   Free admission to designated local concerts for students and immediate family members, in cooperation with professional performance and presenting organizations

  •   Counselling and peer mentoring, college/conservatory application advising

  •   Support to prepare for ensemble auditions, summer music programs, competitions, and conservatory/college admittance

  •   Accompanists for audition recordings and Boston BEAM public performances

  •   Periodic progress assessments and review of goals

  •   Family meetings and information sessions, social events and fellowship with other families in the program


Who is Eligible to be a BEAM Artist

BEAM is open by audition to students in 6th to 12th grade, who reside in the Greater Boston Area and identify as belonging to demographic groups historically underrepresented in classical music professions. Students must play Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Harp or Percussion to be eligible to participate in BEAM.
